MAVI UC · Lastarria, Santiago

April 12, 2026–April 25, 2027

Just steps from The Singular Santiago, the MAVI UC Museum of Visual Arts marks the 25th anniversary of its collection with La llegada de lo blanco. Curated by Joselyne Contreras Cerda, the exhibition brings together 20 works created from the 1960s to the present, offering new perspectives on memory, historical narratives, ways of living, and cultural change in Chile and Latin America

Revisiting the Collection

The exhibition takes its title from Patricia Israel’s La llegada de lo blanco (1992), created in the context of the 500th anniversary of the conquest of the Americas. In the work, white becomes a lens through which to consider dominant narratives, colonial legacies, and inherited ideas that continue to shape the present.

The selection includes works by Roberto Matta, Violeta Parra, Alfredo Jaar, Voluspa Jarpa, and Patricia Israel, among other artists. Painting, photography, installation, video, and performance documentation form a non-linear presentation that allows visitors to draw their own connections among the works.
