THIS SEASON
Running Through Patagonia
With mountains, lakes, open steppe, and routes crossing some of southern Chile's most remarkable landscapes, Patagonia has become a destination for runners from around the world.
Each year, Puerto Natales and the area surrounding Torres del Paine National Park host marathons and trail-running events that bring together athletes of different backgrounds and abilities.
Running here is about more than covering a distance. Courses follow gravel roads, trails, and open terrain, where strong winds, elevation changes, and unpredictable weather are all part of the challenge.
A Growing Running Tradition
Since the first Patagonian International Marathon in 2012, the region has developed a growing calendar of running events.
Competitions such as Ultra Paine, Ultra Fiord, and Patagonia Running Festival have helped establish the area as a destination for sports travel, attracting runners who combine competition with time spent experiencing Patagonia.
Puerto Natales serves as a base for several of these events, hosting pre-race activities, race packet pickup, and services for participants.
